Abstract

The (π+,π0) reaction on nuclei is treated in distorted-wave impulse approximation, using eikonal wave functions for the pion. Results for the total cross section for excitation of the isobaric analog resonance exhibit a minimum near the 3.3 resonance, especially for larger nuclei, due to the strong pion absorption there.
