Abstract

Energy spectra of inelastically scattered 16-MeV deuterons were measured at angles of 90° and 125° using enriched targets of Th230, Pu240, Pu244, and Cm248. In each nucleus the ground state band is observed up to and including the Jπ=8+ level. The β vibration Jπ=0+ level is identified in Th230, and in this and the remaining three nuclei evidence for the γ vibration is discussed. At least three octupole bands are observed in each nucleus and K, Jπ assignments are made in a number of cases. B(E2) and B(E3) values are extracted for selected levels.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Th230, Pu240, Pu244, Cm248(d, d), E=16 MeV, measured σ(Ed, θ=90°, 125°). Th230, Pu240, Pu244, Cm248 deduced levels, J, K, π, B(E2), B(E3); enriched targets.
