Abstract
The Bansal-French-Zamick model is quite successful in accounting for the Coulomb displacement energies of excited particle-hole states in a variety of light nuclei. Level shifts are typically reproduced to within 50 keV. However, the model fails for certain excited states, and this remains a puzzle.
