Abstract

The γ-ray spectrum of the decay of Ho158 in transient equilibrium with 2.3-h Er158 has been studied with Ge(Li) detectors. Results of γ-ray singles and coincidence experiments are reported and a decay scheme for Ho158Dy158 is proposed. New levels have been assigned to the β-vibrational band and a rotational band built on the two-quasineutron state (ν52[523]+ν32[521]). A new K=2 rotational band with spins up to 6+ built on a level at 1851.9 keV is proposed. An attempt is made to characterize a group of negative parity states at about 1400 keV, and tentative assignments of the K=0, 1, and 2 octupole vibrational band heads are suggested.

RADIOACTIVITY Ho158 [from Nd148(N14, 4n); Sm150(C12, 4n), Eu151(B11, 4n) (2.3h, EC, β+)Ho158]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ coin, T12, deduced logft, Dy158 deduced levels, J, π, αK, γ multipolarities. Ge(Li) detectors.
