Abstract

A phenomenological model is used to obtain cross sections for 120-230 MeV pions elastically scattered from C12. The model wave function consists of a diffuse hole cut out of a plane wave and a focus term. Three parameters in the focus term are varied to fit the experimental cross sections. The focus is found to be essential but diminishing in strength up to 200 MeV. It then becomes very weak. Good fits are obtained with this very simple procedure. It can be used to readily obtain the simplest kind of distorted pion wave.
