O18(α, He8)O14 reaction

Abstract

The O18(α, He8)Og.s.14 reaction has been observed at Eα=58 MeV. The measured cross section is 40 ± 15 nb/sr at θlab=8°. The mass excess of He8 was determined to be 31 600 ± 25 keV. Possible reaction mechanisms are discussed.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS O18(He4, He8), E=58 MeV. Measured σ(Ef, 8°). Deduced Qg.s. and mass excess for He8. Magnetic spectrometer.
