Shell-model systematics of the zirconium and niobium isotopes

Abstract

A shell-model description of the zirconium and niobium isotopes is presented that gives the systematic trends in energy levels and parentage for the isotopes with N = 50 through N = 56. The nucleus ⁸⁸Sr is taken to be an inert core with protons filling the ( $2 p_{12}, 1 g_{92}$ ) levels and neutrons the ( $2 d_{52}, 3 s_{12}$ ) levels. Two-body matrix elements are determined by a least-squares fit to energy-level data. One- and two-particle transfer, electromagnetic transition rates, and energy level data are examined.

Consistent large-scale shell-model analysis of the two-neutrino ββ and single β branchings in 48Ca and 96Zr

Two-neutrino double-beta-decay matrix elements $M_{2 ν}$ and single beta-decay branching ratios were calculated for ⁴⁸Ca and ⁹⁶Zr in the interacting nuclear shell model using large single-particle valence spaces with well-tested two-body Hamiltonians. For ⁴⁸Ca the matrix element $M_{2 ν} = 0.0511$ is obtained, which is 5.5% smaller than the previously reported value of 0.0539. For ⁹⁶Zr this work reports the first large-scale shell-model calculation of the nuclear matrix element, yielding a value $M_{2 ν} = 0.0747$ with extreme single-state dominance. These matrix elements, combined with the available ββ-decay half-life data, yield effective values of the weak axial coupling which in turn are used to produce in a consistent way the β-decay branching ratios of $(7.5 \pm 2.8)$ % for ⁴⁸Ca and $(18.4 \pm 0.09)$ % for ⁹⁶Zr. These are larger than obtained in previous studies, implying that the detection of the β-decay branches could be possible in dedicated experiments sometime in the (near) future.
Neutrino–nuclear responses for astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays

Neutrino–nuclear responses associated with astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays are crucial in studies of neutrino properties of interest for astro-particle physics. The present report reviews briefly recent studies of the neutrino–nuclear responses from both experimental and theoretical points of view in order to obtain a consistent understanding of the many facets of the neutrino–nuclear responses. Subjects discussed in this review include (i) experimental studies of neutrino–nuclear responses by means of single beta decays, charge-exchange nuclear reactions, muon- photon- and neutrino–nuclear reactions, and nucleon-transfer reactions, (ii) implications of and discussions on neutrino–nuclear responses for single beta decays, for astro-neutrinos, and for astro-neutrino nucleosynthesis, (iii) theoretical aspects of neutrino–nuclear responses for beta and double beta decays, for nuclear muon capture and for neutrino–nucleus scattering, and (iv) critical discussions on nucleonic and non-nucleonic spin–isospin correlations and renormalization (quenching or enhancement) effects on the axial weak coupling. Remarks are given on perspectives of experimental and theoretical studies of the neutrino–nuclear responses and on future experiments of double beta decays.
Mesonic enhancement of the weak axial charge and its effect on the half-lives and spectral shapes of first-forbidden J+↔J− decays

The effects of the enhancement of the axial-charge matrix element $γ_{5}$ were studied in medium heavy and heavy nuclei for first-forbidden $J^{+} \leftrightarrow J^{-}$ decay transitions using the nuclear shell model. Noticeable dependence on the enhancement $ϵ_{MEC}$ of the axial-charge matrix element, as well as on the value of the axial-vector coupling constant $g_{A}$ was found in the spectral shapes of ⁹³Y, ⁹⁵Sr, and ⁹⁷Y. The importance of the spectrum of ¹³⁸Cs in the determination of $g_{A}$ is discussed. Half-life analyses in the $A \approx 95$ and $A \approx 135$ regions were done, and consistent results $g_{A} \approx 0.90$ , 0.75, and 0.65, corresponding to the three enhancement scenarios $ϵ_{MEC} = 1.4$ , 1.7, and 2.0, were obtained. Connection to the reactor-antineutrino anomaly is pointed out.
Nuclear data sheets for A = 91

Experimental nuclear structure and decay data for all known A=91 nuclides (As, Se, Br, Kr, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd) have been evaluated. This evaluation, covering data received by 1 September 2013, supersedes the 1998 evaluation by C. M. Baglin published in Nuclear Data Sheets 86, 1 (1999) (15 December 1998 literature cutoff), and subsequent evaluations by C. M. Baglin added to the ENSDF database for Kr, Sr and Zr (29 December 2000 literature cutoff) and by B. Singh for ⁹¹Tc (6 November 2000 literature cutoff).
Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 92

Nuclear structure and decay data pertaining to all nuclides with mass number A = 92 (As, Se, Br, Kr, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd) have been compiled and evaluated, and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. All literature available by 15 September 2012 has been considered. This evaluation supersedes the previous publication for this mass chain (Coral M. Baglin, Nuclear Data Sheets 91, 423 (2000) (November 2000 cutoff date)), and subsequent unpublished reevaluations by C.M. Baglin for ⁹²Kr (January 2004 literature cut-off) and ⁹²Sr (August 2003 literature cut-off).
