Abstract

We present systematics of the ground-state α-particle spectroscopic strengths for nuclei from Ne20 to Zn66, measured in the (Li6, d) reaction. An oscillatory decrease from Ne20 to S32, which is in excellent agreement with SU(3) theory, is followed by a striking and unexplained increase at Ar36 and Ca40 and then a decrease up to Ti52, after which there is again a rise.
