Abstract

The half-lives of Ne18 and F20 have been measured by multiscaling β rays detected in a plastic scintillator. Ne18 was formed in the O16(He3, n)Ne18 reaction at EHe3=5.7 MeV using a Ta2 O516 target depleted in O17 and O18. F20 was produced in the F19(d, p)F20 reaction with 2.0-MeV deuterons on a BaF2 target. Half-life values of 1.669±0.004 sec for Ne18 and 10.996±0.020 sec for F20 were obtained. Using the present and other recent results the A=18 β decay mirror asymmetry is found to be -0.86±0.80%.

RADIOACTIVITY Ne18, F20: measured T12; deduced β decay mirror asymmetry.
