Abstract

We have measured with high accuracy the γ rays from 66-sec Mn58, 1.6-min Mn57, and 2.6-h Mn56. Thirty-seven γ rays were observed from Mn58 decay which were incorporated into a Fe58 level scheme with 17 excited states below 4.9 MeV. Present evidence favors a 3+ assignment for the Mn58 ground state, but the β decays to low-lying 2+ states are hindered. Additional weak γ transitions giving rise to new β-decay modes were observed from Mn57 and Mn56 decays.
