Abstract

If second-order processes involving inelastic excitations are important in direct reactions it follows there will be resonances in certain direct reaction channels. The existence of such resonances is discussed, particular reference being made to the 12C(d, p)13C reactions. It is argued that the existence of such resonances implies that second-order processes should be included when analyzing direct reactions.
