Abstract

A detailed study of C12(α,γ0)O16 from Ex=12 to 28 MeV reveals a T=0, E2 strength which constitutes ≅ 17% of the sum rule in the α0 channel alone. Together with other results, ≅ 42% of this sum rule is accounted for in O16. We estimate that the inclusion of other channels would raise this total strength to ∼ 70% and give an E2 energy centroid and width both of ∼ 15 MeV.
