Abstract

We report for the first time coincident C12 and α particles emitted in the bombardment of Ca40 with O16 ions of 64 MeV. Events which populate the ground and first excited states of C12 and Ca40 are observed. The coincident C12 energy spectra are dominated by one or two large peaks near the highest allowable C12 energy. Relatively few coincidences are seen at C12 energies which correspond to maximum yield in the Ca40(O16, C12) singles spectrum.
