Abstract

The 104Ru(n, γ) reaction has been studied through singles and coincidence γ-ray spectroscopy and angular correlation measurements. A level scheme with 34 states and spin and parity assignments for most of these has been deduced from the present data and the l-values from a previous (d, p) study. The neutron binding energy was determined as 5909.9±0.5 keV, implying that the lowest observed (d, p) state corresponds to the 20.5 keV 52+ isomeric state. A comparison of the level scheme with the Nilsson scheme and the de-Shalit model with effective interactions explains the 32+ ground state and the 52+ isomeric state, but does not provide evidence for strong deformation of this nucleus.
