Abstract

In the reaction C12(Li6,d)O16, two 4+ states (at Ex=10.35 and 11.096 MeV) are populated with relative strengths of σ(11.096)σ(10.35)0.5 even though their reduced α-particle widths to the g.s. of C12 are in the ratio Sα(11.096)Sα(10.35)<102. A two-step process proceeding through the first excited state of C12 offers a likely mechanism of the enhanced feeding of the 11.096-MeV state.
