Abstract

A search for γ-decay from the shape isomer in 236U (t12 = 130 ns) and in 238Np (hypothetical) has been performed in the reactions 235U(d, p)236U and 238U(p, n)238Np by the use of a pulsed beam. In both cases there are possible candidates, but no definite γ-decay has been established. The experiments yield limits on production cross sections, which are higher than the theoretical estimates.
