Abstract

The width of the first excited state of N13 has been studied through high resolution C12(p,γ)N13 and C12(He3,d)N13 measurements. Extracted values of this quantity were found to have wide variations when the data were analyzed with different assumptions concerning backgrounds and reaction theories. A previous suggestion that existing data show statistically significant difference in this width when observed in different reactions is not supported by these studies. Width values for the second and third excited states of N13 have also been extracted from the (He3,d) measurements.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(p,γ), Ep=600 keV, thick target; measured yield Eγ. N13, deduced Γ1. C12(He3,d), EHe3=1215 MeV; measured yield Ed. N13, deduced Γ1,2,3. Alternative analyses compared.
