Abstract

Angular distributions for the excitation of the lowest five ¹¹C states have been measured in the ¹²C(p, d)¹¹ C pick-up reaction at E_p = 700 MeV. The data are analyzed with a DWBA method.

Analyzing power measurements for the 13C(p,d)12C reaction at 200 and 400 MeV

Cross sections and analyzing powers for the ¹³C( $p$ ,d) reaction have been measured at 200 and 400 MeV to the 0⁺, ground state and 2⁺, 4.44 MeV state of ¹²C. While the cross sections are rather structureless, DWBA calculations in exact finite range account well for both the magnitude and shape of the angular distributions. On the other hand, the measured analyzing powers are in serious disagreement with the DWBA calculations.

The (p, t) reaction on 12C, 54Fe and 208Pb at 80 MeV

Angular distributions have been measured for the low-lying levels of the residual nuclei for the ¹²C, ⁵⁴Fe and ²⁰⁸Pb(p, t) reactions at E_p = 80 MeV. The shapes of these angular distributions are generally well reproduced by the zero-range distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA). Enhancement factors extracted from the data show that the DWBA predicts relative strengths consistent with those observed at lower bombarding energies. However, the overall empirical DWBA normalization at E_p = 80 MeV is observed to be $112$ ( $14$ ) of that required at 40 MeV for ²⁰⁸Pb (⁵⁴Fe).

The positive-parity states of 11B

The positive-parity states of A = 11 are calculated in a complete iħω representation free of spurious states. Strengths for E1 transitions and for β-decay are examined in a weak coupling representation and found to have strong interference effects. The small 0s hole components are calculated to be extremely important for E1 transitions. The degree of agreement with observed properties indicates a good first-order approximation.
