Abstract

A systematic comparison is made between the experimental strengths of accurately measured allowed Gamow-Teller β-decay and the corresponding strengths derived from shell model wave functions computed in the full basis of the major shell. It is found that the experimental transitions are, on the average, slower than the theoretical by the square of ρψ = 0.897±0.035. This is to be compared with the outcome of an earlier study in which a corresponding factor was extracted in an almost-wave-function-free way using the isoscalar magnetic moments of mirror pairs which gave ρμ = 0.902±0.046.
