Abstract
It is shown that separable potentials including repulsion and tensor components with Yamaguchi form factors are unable to give a reasonable fit simultaneously to phase shifts and the following deuteron data: the binding energy, the quadrupole moment, and the electric form factor. It is also found that a good phase-shift fit cannot be obtained from potentials of this type if the -state probability of the deuteron desired is higher than 4%.
