Abstract

An estimate of the (p-d-t) successive single-neutron pickup cross section is shown to be in disagreement with experimental data for the “forbidden” 22Ne(p,t)20Ne(4.97 MeV, 2-) transition. Furthermore, it is shown that cross sections at very forward angles are important to distinguish whether a “forbidden” transition proceeds via inelastic excitation or successive single-neutron pickup.
