Abstract

The nucleus 12C is treated as a system composed of three α-particles. A separable T-matrix is used for the s-wave interaction between two α-particles in the presence of Coulomb forces. The internal structure of the α-particle is taken into account. Applying the Bencze equation a ground state of 12C is found at − 7.30 MeV. The calculated radius of the nucleus is significantly smaller than experimentally known.
