Abstract

Excitation functions have been measured for the fission isomers Pu240m and Pu239m produced in the reactions of U238 with He4. A value of 2.4 ± 0.5 nsec was obtained for the half-life of Pu240m. The high detection efficiency of thick targets and annular detector geometry has been used and refined. Upper limits of 0.3 and 0.6 μb have been obtained for the production of 29-nsec Pu240m and 6.5-nsec Pu238m, respectively.
