Abstract

The Doppler shift attenuation method has been used to measure the lifetimes of 14N exited states produced in the 12C(3He, p)14N reaction. Gamma rays were detected at θγ = 0° and 90° in coincidence with proton groups observed at 180° in an annular detector. The lifetimes obtained are as follows: 2.31 MeV level, τ = 114±30 fs; 3.95 MeV level, τ < 28 fs; 4.91 MeV, τ< 28 fs; 5.69 MeV level, τ < 21 fs; 6.20 MeV level, τ = 200±45 fs; 6.44 MeV level, τ = 630±100 fs. These results are compared with previous measurements and recent theoretical predictions using the weak coupling approach.
