Abstract

Pion elastic scattering cross sections around the (3,3) resonance have been computed for three different nuclei using standard high-energy approximations. The results given by the different approximations are found to be very close to each other. Using the eikonal DWIA the excitations of the low-lying 2+ (4.4 MeV) and 3 (9.6 MeV) states of 12C have been computed for three different nuclear models. The present accuracy of the experimental data does not allow definite statements about the quality of these models. No adjustable parameter has been used in the calculations.
