Abstract

The neutron channel in muon capture by complex nuclei, μ + (A, Z) → (A − 1, Z − 1) +n+ν, is investigated. The calculation is made for the nucleus 16O. The transitions to the 12 (g.s), 32 (6.33 MeV), 12+ and 52+ (5.3 MeV) levels of 15N are considered. It is shown that the finalstate interaction between an outgoing neutron and the residual nucleus changes the monotonic energy dependence of the high-energy asymmetry as predicted in a plane-wave approximation. When the transitions to definite states of the final nucleus are singled out, one can obtain detailed information and identify the main features of muon capture with high-energy neutron emission.
