Abstract

Angular distributions have been measured for the scattering of 30 MeV protons from the strongly excited low-lying positive-parity states in 19F, 20Ne and 21Ne. Coupled-channels calculations yield evidence for a large β4 deformation in 20Ne (+0.28 ± 0.05) and in 19F (+0.14 ± 0.04). The analysis of the 21Ne data indicates a possible small hexadecapole deformation below +0.05.
