The width of the first excited state of ${}_{}{}^{13}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{N}$ has been determined from the ${}_{}{}^{12}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{C}(d, n){}_{}{}^{13}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{N}_{}^{*}{}_{}{}^{}$ reaction to be $\Gamma =36.15\mathrm{}\pm 0.54$ keV. This result is compared with those of previous determinations from ${}_{}{}^{12}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{C}(p, \gamma ){}_{}{}^{13}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{N}$ and ${}_{}{}^{12}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{C}(p, p){}_{}{}^{12}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{C}$ experiments. These previous measurements are reviewed and it is shown that they imply a width of $\Gamma =32.5\mathrm{}\pm 0.55$ keV. This discrepancy is discussed and some possible sources of the differences are examined.
