Final state interaction in pion electroproduction from nuclei near threshold

Abstract

We have calculated cross sections for pion electroproduction from nuclei near threshold, including the distortion of the pion wave function by the pion-nucleus optical potential. Distortion effects near threshold are found to be significant, changing the ratio σπ-/σπ+ for production of 10 MeV pions from 16O by nearly fifty percent.
