Abstract

Striking destructive interference effects have been observed in the He4 excitation of the 2+ and 4+ ground-state band rotational states in deformed even-A Sm154, Er166, and W182. The E2 and E4 transition moments and charge deformation parameters, β20c and β40c, are given.

[NUCLEAR REACTIONS Sm154(α,α), E=1119 MeV; Er166(α,α), E=12.519.5 MeV, W182(α,α), E=1321 MeV; measured σ(Eα;θ=150); deduced B(E2), B(E4). Enriched targets. Extracted model-dependent deformations, β20 and β40.]
