Abstract

An accurate redetermination of the angular distribution for the polarization of the neutrons produced in the 2H(d, n)3He reaction was obtained for deuteron energies of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 MeV. The differential polarization P1 (θ)σ(θ) was fitted at each energy using two and three terms in an associated Legendre function expansion. Data at 18 MeV from another report were also fitted and only at this energy was the third term required. The present data are consistent with earlier data below 10 MeV but at 12 and 14 MeV, P1 (45° c.m.) is about 50 % higher than the previous measurements.
