Abstract

Angular distributions were measured for the (O16, C12) reactions on Mg24,26, Al27, and Si28 at 42 MeV. States in the "α-particle" nuclei Si28 and S32 were populated strongly for 0<~Ex<~11 MeV, while cross sections for transitions to states in Si30 and P31 were small. The Si28 and S32 ground-state angular distributions are sharply oscillatory in nature. The 4.43-MeV state of C12 is strongly excited in the reaction Mg24(O16, C12)Si28, but not in the others.
