Abstract

In a two-dimensional measurement the energies of the α-particle and one neutron from the reaction 3H(t, n4He) have been analysed. The angles have been chosen so as to observe the n-n final-state interaction near zero relative energy of the two neutrons. From a comparison of the data with the Born approximation a value ann = −15.0 ±1.0 fm for the 1S0 scattering length has been obtained. Analogous experiments with the mirror reaction 3He(3He, p4He) and with 3He(t, p4He) yielded app = −7.6±0.6 fm and asnp = −21±3 fm for the singlet scattering lengths. Their agreement with known values demonstrates the possibility of obtaining a reliable value of ann.
