Abstract

The atomic-beam magnetic resonance method has been used in spin measurements on some neutron-deficient praseodymium and neodymium isotopes. The results are: 133pr (7.5 min) I = 52, 134Pr (18.5 min) I = 2, 135Pr (24 min) I = 32, 136Pr (13.5 min) I = 2, 137Pr (76.6 min) I = 52, 138mPr (2.0 h) I = 7, 139Pr (4.5 h) I = 52, 140Pr (3.4 min) I = 1, 134Nd (8 min) I = 0, 135Nd (15 min) I = 92, 136Nd (55 min) I = 0, 137Nd (37 min) I = 12, 138Nd (5.2 h) I = 0, 139Nd (29.7 min) I = 32, 139mNd (5.5 h) I = 0 and 140Nd (3.38 d) I = 0. The spin values of nuclei in the vicinity of the N = 82 shell closure are in agreement with shell-model predictions. In order to explain the nuclear spins of the neutron-deficient isotopes far from the β-stability line, a deformed nuclear shape has to be assumed.
