Abstract

The low-lying states of 12C are studied in the cluster model by the method of Brink. Along with angular momentum projection, a limited Hill-Wheeler integral is carried out over a mode which has been called the hinge mode. Possible candidates are found for most of the observed states below 15 MeV and reasonable electromagnetic properties are obtained.
