Two different versions of the coincidence DSAM technique were used to measure the lifetime of the 981 keV state of 8Li produced in the 9Be(t, α)8Li reaction. The mean lifetime of this state is ρm = 14±5 fs. This result is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of Barker and also of Cohen and Kurath.
