Abstract

The results of an exact shell-model calculation for 18O by Lo Iudice, Rowe and Wong are compared with those obtained with a perturbation expansion for the effective shell-model interaction complete through third order. The comparison suggests a converging expansion. The importance of folded diagrams in third order is demonstrated.
