Hartree-Fock calculations of light deformed nuclei using density-dependent effective interactions

Abstract

The Hartree-Fock states of the doubly even N = Z nuclei from ¹²C to ⁴⁰Ca have been calculated using the density-dependent effective interaction of Negele. The results are compared with those obtained with the density-independent Bl interaction of Brink and Boeker as well as with those of calculations using other interactions. A detailed comparison of quadrupole moments, radii, separation and binding energies is made between the various calculations and experimental data. The HF wave functions are also compared to the equilibrium α-particle configurations and the structure of 2s-1d shell nuclei is analyzed.

Effects of considering nuclear interactions between the UHCRE sample and the experimental setup on the observed cosmic ray abundances for Z ≥ 74

A recently published charge spectrum derived from a sample of cosmic ray nuclei with Z ≥ 74 collected by the Ultra Heavy Cosmic Ray Experiment (a satellite-borne experiment which employed a large array of solid state nuclear track detectors) is propagated outside the experimental setup. This propagation is carried out by computing cross sections for nuclear interactions between cosmic ray nuclei and the experimental setup from emprical values and semiempirical models. The effect that this propagation has upon the relative abundance between different groups of charge is studied. The value of the corrections derived from this propagation is found to be similar to that of the statistical errors.
Shape coexistence and high-spin states in 28Si

The spectrum of ²⁸Si is investigated within the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model with all kinds of many-particle-many-hole excitations accounted for. Calculated excitation energies and quadropole moments are compared with experimental data. The recently observed backbend from 8⁺ to 10⁺ is suggested to be caused by the crossing of the oblate ground band with a prolate or slightly triaxial band having one proton and one neutron excited to the fp shell.

Static quadrupole moments of first 2+ states in the 2s1d shell: A review of experiment and theory

Available experimental information on the static electric quadrupole moments Q₂₊ of the 2⁺ first excited states of even-mass nuclei in the 2s1d shell is tabulated and critically reviewed, and “adopted values” are presented. The results reveal a well defined pattern for the variation of Q_2⁺ through the shell. Predictions of Q_2⁺ made from various nuclear models are tabulated and compared with experiment. For each nucleus the qua ty and quality of the existing data for Q_2⁺, together with the current theoretical significance of the result, are used as criteria to determi whether new experimental work is desirable.
