Abstract

The photonuelear reactions (γ,p) and (γ, n) have been analysed for photon energies 40 MeV < Eγ < 140 MeV on the basis of a shell-model picture modified by short-range nucleon-nueleon correlations. The cross sections turn out to depend sensitively on the details of the correlation factor, i.e. on the exchange of high momenta between otherwise independently moving nucleons. As in the case of the (γ, pn) reaction, the results of the calculations for 16O indicate that precise measurements of the (γ, p) and (γ, n) cross sections do contain information on the properties of the nuclear wave functions at small internueleonic distances.
