Abstract

Energy levels in O17 and F20 have been observed in the Ne20(n,α) and Ne20(n,p) reactions using a gridded ionization chamber. In the reaction Ne20(n,α)O17, cross sections to the ground state and four excited states in O17 at 0.83, 3.18, 3.90, and 4.63 MeV were determined to be 6.6 ± 2.5, 1.0 ± 0.4, 1.5 ± 0.4, 2.0 ± 0.4, and 1.3 ± 0.3 mb, respectively. The total cross section for the Ne20(n,α) reaction is 12.4 ± 4 mb. The Ne20(n,2α)C13 reaction was observed and the Q value and cross section to the ground state of C13 were found to be -7.00 ± 0.02 MeV and 41.8 ± 8.1 mb, respectively.
