Abstract

Yield curves have been determined for (γ, n) reactions in 14N, 16O, 19F and 31P and for the (γ, p) reaction in 30Si using bremsstrahlung with maximum energies between 100 and 800 MeV. Above 200 MeV there is a difference between the yields determined and those predicted from the giant resonance data and, at higher energies, the quasideuteron absorption process. From the difference, which is assumed to represent the (γ, n) or (γ, p) reaction via meson production, the number of nucleons that can contribute to the reaction is calculated. The results are in good agreement with simple shell-model considerations.
