Abstract

The attenuation of the α-γ correlation was measured in dependance on the velocity for the first excited 2+ state in 20Ne recoiling into vacuum. The observed attenuation can be explained by a time-independent, isotropic magnetic hyperfine interaction between the nucleus and mainly those electron configurations having unpaired 1s12 or 2s12 electrons. The possibility of measuring nuclear magnetic moments of states with lifetimes down to 10−14 sec is discussed.
