Abstract

The effective interaction of Skyrme is applied to the calculation of neutron-scattering cross sections from 12C, 16O and 40Ca. in the Hartree-Fock approximation. Using the same sets of force parameters which yield good results for the bound-state properties (binding energies, radii, etc.) of closed shell nuclei, we also find reasonable results for the continuum properties of these nuclei. In particular, the position and width of the d34 single-particle resonance in 17O, as well as the differential cross section and polarization near the resonance, agree well with experimental values.
