Abstract

The tantalum isotopes Ta170 and Ta171 were produced via the following reactions: Ho165(C12,6n)Ta171, Tb159(O16,4n)Ta171, Ho165(C12,7n)Ta170, and Tb159(O16,5n)Ta170. The half-life of Ta171 was determined to be 25 ± 2 min and of Ta170, 7 ± 2 min. About 60 γ rays were assigned to the Ta171 decay, while in Ta170 decay, only the excitations of the first- and second-excited states of Hf170 were observed.
