Abstract

The energy level separation of the doublet at 9.15 MeV in 15N has been measured using the 14N(d, pγ) 15N reaction. Gamma rays were measured in coincidence with protons which were detected with a position-sensitive detector located at the exit of a magnetic spectrometer. Branching ratios for different γ-decays were observed to vary across the proton group in a manner consistent with the known modes of decay of each member of the doublet. This variation was used to obtain a value of 2.8 ±0.5 keV for the energy level separation.
