Abstract

Mass-separated samples of 100Cd, 101Cd, and 102Cd have been produced in the ISOLDE isotope separator facility on line to the CERN 600 MeV Synchro-cyclotron. The half-life of 100Cd is 1·1 ± 0·3 min. The existence of the previously reported 15 min half-life for 101Cd and 30 min half-life for 102Cd was not confirmed. The 100Cd does not decay appreciably to the previously known 8 min 100Ag but, instead, to an isomer of half-life 2·3 ± 0·1 min. An isomer in 101Ag at an energy of 273·2 ± 0·7 keV has been established. This isomer is an 12 state and decays via an E3 transition to a 72+ level 97·7 keV above the 92+ ground state. We have established that in 102Ag, the 8 min isomer is the upper isomer above the 13 min ground state. The isomer energy is 9·3 ± 0·4 keV.
