Abstract

The oscillator model for calculating the binding energies of finite nuclei is studied. The general properties of the coefficients of the reduced matrix elements occurring in the binding-energy expression are discussed. The numerical values of these coefficients for the nuclei up to Pb208 are tabulated. The model has been tested by comparing its results with those of the Hartree-Fock calculations. It is found that the accuracy of the model in predicting the binding energies and rms radii is quite good.
