Possible Evidence for a Quadrupole Giant Resonance in O16

Abstract

Angular distributions for the reaction O16(γ, p)N15 are presented from 21 to 32.5 MeV. The asymmetry coefficients A1 and A3 increase to a maximum at 30 MeV and indicate a broad quadrupole state centered near 27 MeV.
