Abstract

The 18O(p, p) 18O and 18O(p, α) 15N excitation functions were investigated in the energy range Ep = 1.39 to 3.20 MeV by simultaneous observation of protons and α-particles at 135°. Only twelve prominent elastic scattering levels were observed at this angle and at 45°, despite the high experimental resolution (less than 400 eV energy spread). Only one resonance was observed for the proton interaction with 16O under the same conditions. R-matrix expressions for multichannel multilevel cross sections were programmed and used to analyze these data. Three of the resonances were determined to be s-wave and seven d-wave, while only two were found to have odd parity. Spins were assigned to each of these twelve resonances except for one d-wave.
