Abstract

The reaction 7Li(3He,γ)10B has been studied in the energy range 3.0 MeV ≦E3He≦6.0 MeV, using an anticoncoincidence-shielded NaI(Tl) gamma-ray detector. Excitation functions for capture radiation to the ground and first four excited states of 10B were measured with the detector at 90° to the incident beam direction. A strong resonance at E3He = 3.40 MeV with a c.m. width of 910 keV was found in the cross section for capture to the 2+(T = 0), 3.59 MeV state of 10B. Angular distribution measurements indicate s-wave capture; the resonant state can be given the spin and parity assignment 1 or 2 (T =1) with 2 being more likely. The compound nucleus mechanism appears to dominate the capture process below 6 MeV bombarding energy.
